High School Reform Movements

An excellent resource for information about current trends and policy in the American education system can be found at this site: http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ovae/pi/hs/index.html

The site lists the three goals for preparing America’s future as follows:
  • Equip state and local education leaders with current knowledge about high schools through special forums, print and electronic materials, and targeted technical assistance;
  • Develop the expertise and structures within the Department of Education to provide coordinated support and outreach to state and local education systems to help improve high school and youth outcomes; and
  • Facilitate a national dialogue to raise awareness about the need for significant reform in American high schools.

The site also discusses policies that have had significant impact on the approach to education in America including the No Child Left Behind act of 2001 and states standards and goals for education in all disciplines in American high schools.

There are many interesting forum discussions listed at the following website http://www.aypf.org/programs/education/hsreform.htm. Topics include ensuring that all students graduate, high school credit through expanded opportunities, and creating equitable high schools.

All of this information will be used as we look towards the opening of Dream School International.
